Atomic Beer Project by YSG

The red brick façade is inconspicuous in the laneway, but step inside, and the multi-level space is a labyrinth of energy and colour. YSG Studio exposed the shell of the building, retaining its grungy time-worn elements – brickwork, layered paint and random graffiti – and added acidic colours, slick plastics and gleaming metals to create an otherworldly atmosphere.

Coloured surfaces, furnishings and lighting radiate through the darkened environment, with red light dramatising and intensifying the edgy aesthetic and atmosphere. Small versions of Sphera Maestro tubular lights glow red on each side of the stairs, while longer versions illuminate the red-brick walls of the bathrooms. The red lighting has the familiar flair of modern Pan-Asian dining, as well as harking back to 1980s sci-fi.
